PixPublisher Update!

On Tuesday May 10th, an upgraded version of our PixPublisher photo book editor went live. The new version has the following improvements over the previous version:

  • The panels where photos, backgrounds, decorations go have been redesigned to vertical tabs. This is a cleaner design that conserves space. You can also click on the tabs to collapse the panels giving you a bigger workspace.
  • In the frames tab you'll see a section called cutouts. These let you change the shape of your photos - circular, heart shaped, halftone edges, etc. Expect to see many more shapes added in the coming weeks.
  • We've also combined cutouts + frames to create odd-shaped frames. Watch for many more of these to be added soon.
  • A live search which starts listing matching assets as you type
  • Each tab - backgrounds, stickers, etc. has a new section showing the ones already being used in your project. This makes it easier to find the items you've used before.
  • Solid and gradient backgrounds have been moved to the backgrounds tab. Just drag and drop them onto your book like any other background.
  • The properties window is see through and appears in the corner of the workspace so it isn't in the way.
  • Photos added to your book display at an appropriate resolution to make your performance faster and the display quality higher.
  • Gradient backgrounds can now be mirrored
  • Holding shift while resizing an object resizes it around the center point.
  • Holding ctrl while moving an element will disable snapping to edges or gridlines

Thank you to all of our customers whose valuable feedback and suggestions contributed to this update.

Please be patient over the next few days in case there are any minor bugs we missed. Just let us know and we'll fix them ASAP!

Hope you enjoy the improvements.

I would love to see a function for using silhouettes of photos - created as tif with transparent backgrounds and would love to be able to use png files!

Hi Cindy. The ability to support transparent PNG files is definitely on our list of planned features.

It would be great if your backgrounds could be faded so that they are not as bright.  If the opacity tool worked for the backgrounds that would be fantastic as sometimes photographs show up better against a lighter background.

Hi Jay. Here's a trick you can try. Open the stickers tab. Type swatch into the search box. This should filter the list to some colored rectangles. Drag the white (or black - depending on whether you want to lighten or darken) one onto the page, stretch it so it covers the entire page/spread and move it to the bottom of the object stack (click "to back"). Then dial down the opacity of the sticker until you get the effect you want. Let me know if this works for you.

Hi Tom. They are in the works... transparency you can do now. Its called opacity and its on the orange bar above the workspace. There is also a workaround for lightening and darkening photos. You can see the YouTube video here: http://youtu.be/qVoxYRxyupk

Hope this helps! We'll work on getting the others done as soon as we can.

Where is a Stickers tab? I don't have one among the vertical tabs.

Sorry Mark. Stickers were renamed to "decorations" recently. Stickers is a term used in scrapbooking and some customers were getting confused so we re-named it.
